Stoked by public health special interest groups a litany of frightening headlines has splashed across Canadian newspapers and TV news screens: Vaping Addicts Youth to Nicotine; Youth Vaping Leads to Youth Smoking; Vaping Is an Urgent Threat to Public Health.
For many Canadians, the news is shocking and worrisome, yet also confusing. Considering the fact that less than one-year-ago the Federal Liberal government made vaping products with nicotine legal in Canada—with the full acknowledgment that vaping is a much safer alternative to smoking.
In this RegWatch feature interview, hear what Dr. Mark Tyndall, Professor at the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health and former Executive Director of the BC Centre for Disease Control thinks about the pressure campaign to rollback vaping regulations and why he says it's based on a contrived “moral panic.”

E179 - TEEN EPIDEMIC | EXPERT SAYS RESEARCH IS BIASED AND FLAWED
Thursday Mar 21, 2019
Thursday Mar 21, 2019
Considering the ceaseless media coverage and the constant threat of retribution by regulators and anti-vaping non-profit health groups, one would think there exists a large body of scientific evidence to back up the claim that youth vaping has become a public health crisis; but apparently, there is not. Or, if the evidence exists, it’s not been made available to the public, the industry or to other researchers who specialize in tobacco harm reduction. Why not?
Find out in this extended RegWatch interview with Dr. Brad Rodu, Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville, Kentucky and 25-year veteran tobacco harm reduction.

There are plenty of theories about why so many people seem to hold maniacal dispositions against vaping. Are they in bed with big tobacco? Or maybe they work for big pharma? Some may simply have an authoritarian personality and like telling people how to live their lives. It could be all of these reasons and more: Including prejudice.

E173 - BALLISTIC | SURPRISING INSIGHTS ON VAPING BY TOBACCO CONTROL
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
Wednesday Mar 13, 2019
For many within the tobacco control movement the debate over vaping—considering the decades spent fighting big tobacco—is filled with contradiction. On one hand, you have the cigarette which is proven to be deadly and on the other, you have vaping, which despite relentless demonization is considered by even the most ardent critic, to be a much safer alternative to smoking. As the saying goes within vaping advocacy: Smoking kills and vaping saves lives.
But this axiom presents a difficult challenge as the minute big tobacco got involved in the vaping industry the antennae of long-time tobacco control advocates went ballistic: the tobacco industry’s business is to hook people on a lifelong addiction to nicotine, and for many within tobacco control, the business of vaping appears to be no different.
In this special extended edition of RegWatch hear from top tobacco control advocate Michael Perley as we discuss the reported epidemic of youth vaping; the impact of nicotine use on the adolescent brain; the battle to ban retail sales to minors; and the role specialty vape shops could play in a responsible future.
Surprising insights you don’t want to miss!
