E219 - CDC DECEPTION | NOT JUST WRONG, BUT HORRIFIC | REG WATCH (LIVE)
Friday Oct 11, 2019
Friday Oct 11, 2019
It could be the largest public health scandal in American history. In a little over two months a cluster of mysterious pulmonary illnesses metastasized into a national health emergency with over 1,300 fallen sick, and as of October 10th, twenty-nine deaths. Americans ranging in age from 17 to 75 years continue to die and the agency responsible for protecting the public from spreading illness—the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—continues to suppress the nearly incontrovertible evidence regarding the cause of this horrific outbreak.
Did CDC’s refusal (that is ongoing) to explicitly identify and warn the public about the extreme risks of using illicit black-market THC products cause needless illness and death? And as CDC sponsored hysteria, which falsely conflates nicotine vaping as the cause, drives millions of vapers back to smoking: Will the federal agency have blood on its hands, decades from now, when millions more die from cancer and smoking-related disease?

Hysteria over vaping-related lung illness appeared out of nowhere and in a flash consumed the entire North American vaping industry. It began on August 16 with a short media statement issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and by September 11, it had metastasized into a Presidential vaping ban.
Canada was not immune. The following week Dr. Christopher Mackie, medical officer for the Middlesex-London region in Ontario, held a gripping news conference to announce the first confirmed case of vaping-related lung illness in Canada. As was the case in the U.S., although, with more bravo, Dr. Mackie slow-walked the release of critical information regarding the suspect substance i.e. THC or nicotine and then refused to disclose the brand name of the product involved.
Did U.S. and Canadian health officials withhold information that could have protected the public from further exposure, illness or even death?
Find out, in this RegWatch exclusive interview with Dr. Mark Tyndall, North American expert on infectious disease and Professor of Medicine, UBC School of Population and Public Health.

The war on vaping escalates with each passing day. On Tuesday the war widened when Massachusetts officially became the first U.S. state to ban the sale of all electronic cigarettes, going further than other states, that have up until now, only restricted flavored vaping products. The ban is effective immediately and will run until January 25. Also, this week, the assault on vaping set its sights on the past, in a new attack on the science—by Public Health England and the Royal College of Physicians—that underpins the harm reduction argument, which drives the support for vaping.
And, with Trump’s national ban on vaping threatening to wipe out what is the fastest growing and most successful small business sector of the past decade, RegWatch talks with two firebrand vapers; women who feel their hearts have been ripped out and stomped on by the President and the ceaseless attacks on vaping.
Hear what they have to say!

E210 - CURIOUS CASE OF DR. MACKIE | LUNG SCARE CANADA | RegWatch (Live)
Wednesday Sep 25, 2019
Wednesday Sep 25, 2019
It was shocking news to learn just one week ago of the first reported case of illness linked to vaping products in Canada. In a gripping news conference, which we covered here on RegWatch, officials from the Middlesex-London Health Unit in Ontario released details, albeit limited of an Ontario teenager who was put on life-support after using a vaping device.
Dr. Chris Mackie, the region’s medical officer and CEO of health for the Middlesex-London Health Unit didn’t pull any punches regarding his assessment of the cause of the illness, which he says is simply vaping. He makes no distinction between traditional nicotine vaping and the vaping of illicit THC products which have been identified as the likely cause of the outbreak of illness and death in the United States.
During Wednesday's news conference, Dr. Mackie was asked if he could identify the substance in question that was vaped and while acknowledging that he knew the answer he refused to make that information public. He also indicated that he knew the brand of the product, but Mackie again refused to release that information.
In this edition of RegWatch Live industry insiders Maria Papaioannoy-Duic and Jonathan Marshall discuss the controversy and their concerns over the lack of information being provided, and the incessant campaign to demonize vaping.
