It was a pinnacle moment for the U.S. vaping industry. At the White House on Friday, vaping industry leaders met face-to-face with anti-vaping opponents, public-health advocates and President Trump in what was billed as a “listening session” to address the surge in underage vaping. Issues concerning flavors (including a flavor ban) captivated the discussion and provided for much of the disagreement.
President Trump did more than just listen he also led the conversation, demonstrating a significant understanding of the importance of flavors to adult vapers and for the success of the industry.
In this episode of RegWatch get critical insights and reactions from inside the meeting with session participant and leading industry rep Tony Abboud, the Executive Director of the Vapor Technology Association, and Jon Glauser, VTA Executive Board Member and industry powerhouse.
Was the meeting a slam dunk? Find out!

At no other time has the nicotine vaping industry faced such intense controversy. Under fire for the so-called youth vaping “epidemic” and besieged from all sides over the gross allegation that it’s responsible for the so-called “vaping-related” lung illness—the industry is in a fight for its very survival.
While faced with these challenges the industry has fractured into essentially two camps: the open-systems segment that spawned and nurtured the industry, and the closed-pod systems segment, such as Juul, that have exploded in popularity, and which some say, are responsible for the rise in youth use.
In this special edition of RegWatch we are joined by Daniel David the President & CEO of VITA, the Vaping Industry Trade Association of Canada. In September, several vaping companies, including Juul, Imperial Tobacco Canada, which sells the Vype e-cigarette, and JTI Canada joined forces to launch the new trade organization.
What is VITA’s mission? What are its positions on issues such as flavours, advertising and point-of-sale marketing restrictions, nicotine caps and much more?

As the jackboots of authoritarian government stomp across North America, it would do well for vapers to note that in at least one jurisdiction, the province of Quebec there is life after a brutal vape crackdown. The Quebec vaping industry is surviving after almost 4-years of operating under an oppressive anti-vaping regime that strips individuals of the right to speak freely and forces companies to comply with arcane regulations that routinely deliver obscene fines i.e. $8000 for a sticker out of place.
In this episode of RegWatch, John Xydous a vape chain-store owner and advocate in Quebec, provides tips for survival and talks about how a major victory in Quebec Superior Court is the game-changer that every vaping activist in the world should know about.

The Globe and Mail, Canada’s leading progressive newspaper, published a 5,000-word attack on the Canadian vaping industry at the end of last week and then followed up with a searing editorial on Sunday. As it appears, the purpose of the exposé is to reveal scandalous and potentially criminal marketing practices of numerous Canadian vape companies. In what the Globe and Mail deem is an effort to hook a new generation of young people on nicotine.
Joining us today on RegWatch is ShY Bekman, he’s a board member of the Canadian vaping association and founder and CEO of DashVapes, the largest independently owned e-cigarette retailer and e-liquid manufacturer in Canada addresses the litany of charges leveled by the Globe and Mail.
Is this simply a hit job or is there merit to the claims?

The B.C. provincial government is taking what it calls “bold action” in an effort to stem the rise in youth vaping the province. The new vaping regulations include increasing the provincial sales tax on vaping products, restricting the amount of nicotine in e-liquid to 20 milligrams per milliliter and forcing plain packaging with health warnings on all vapour products.
The new rules stop short of a ban on flavoured vaping products. Instead, B.C. proposes that flavours be restricted to shops that enforce age restrictions on sales. There are approximately 150 such stores in the province that would be able to sell additional flavours.
Many of the proposed changes to vaping in B.C. mirror the policy suggestions made by the Canadian Vaping Association and in this episode of RegWatch hear from Shaun Casey, past President and current board member of the CVA, and the architect of the CVA policy position on vaping.

Inarguably, if President Trump decides to dial-back his proposed national ban on flavored vaping products, then millions of American vapers will have only one person to thank and his name is Paul Blair. Blair is a policy strategist for the conservative-based advocacy group Americans for Tax Reform; for many, he’s the hero who crunched Trump’s 2016 state-by-state vote totals and loudly warned the president would lose the 2020 election if he abandons the vaper vote.
In this special edition of RegWatch, shot on location in Washington D.C., we talk with Blair about the still-pending national flavor ban and hear why he thinks CDC misinformation on nicotine-vaping is a “smack in the face.”

Reason Foundation’s Guy Bentley pulls no punches in assessing the role U.S. Centers for Disease Control played in stoking moral panic over nicotine-vaping. Did the CDC know they were wrong about the so-called vaping-related lung illness and did the federal agency purposefully mislead the public?
